About this place
Liqeni i Zi lies deep in the mountain country southwest of Pogradec, far from the city waterfront and reached as a full rural excursion rather than a quick stop. Its dark, still surface and secluded setting give the lake its distinctive atmosphere, surrounded by the highland landscape of the wider Mokra–Valamara area. Access can involve minor roads and walking on unmarked or lightly marked terrain, with conditions changing by season. A suitable vehicle may be needed for the approach; confirm the route locally, download an offline map, and consider travelling with someone who knows the area. Carry food, water, warm layers, and everything needed to take your waste back out. The reward is silence, clean mountain air, and a landscape very different from Pogradec’s lakeshore below. Summer and early autumn are generally the most practical times to visit, while snow, rain, or low cloud can make this remote outing significantly harder.
