About this place
Around 40 kilometres from Pogradec, near the village of Golik in the Mokra highlands, this stone bridge crosses the upper Shkumbin River in a landscape far removed from the lakefront. The corridor is associated with the ancient Via Egnatia, while the surviving bridge is commonly dated to the 17th century—a reminder that important routes were repaired and reused across many eras. Built from carefully laid stone and carried on arches above the river, the bridge is both an architectural monument and a beautiful rural viewpoint. Water levels, vegetation, and access conditions change through the year, so the appearance of the site can differ considerably by season. This is a countryside excursion from Pogradec, not a quick walk from town. Confirm the current road before leaving, allow time for slow local sections, and combine the visit with the villages and valleys of Mokra. Do not climb exposed masonry or leave litter around the river.
