Stone of Kamja 1

About this place

South of Pogradec, Guri i Kamjes rises above the hills as one of the region’s most recognisable natural formations. Its unusual weathered profile is visible from afar and has inspired local stories for generations. Reaching the area takes visitors away from the lakeshore and into the quieter rural landscape of the Pogradec district. The final approach is on foot over uneven mountain terrain. From the surrounding high ground, views open across valleys, villages, and distant ridges, while the rock itself offers striking perspectives for photography. There are exposed edges and few facilities, so wear suitable footwear, carry water, and avoid climbing in poor weather. Guri i Kamjes is best suited to visitors who enjoy hiking, geology, and places outside the usual tourist route. Ask locally about current road and trail conditions before setting out, and allow enough daylight for the return journey.
