Pogradec is one of Albania’s rare cities where a swim in a UNESCO-listed ancient lake is part of everyday life. The city beach runs alongside the promenade, while additional stretches of shore continue toward Buçimas, Tushemisht, and north along the road to Lin. Some are lively and serviced; others are small, quiet coves where the mountains feel close to the water. The lake is known for its clear freshwater, and summer is the main swimming season. Conditions and lakebed surfaces vary from place to place, so families should choose a suitable section and keep an eye on children. Bring water shoes for pebbled areas, protect the shoreline, and avoid disturbing aquatic plants and wildlife. Stay until evening if you can. As the heat fades, the beaches flow naturally into Pogradec’s promenade and café life, making it easy to combine a day in the water with dinner and a sunset walk beside the lake.
