About this place
The Monastery of Saint Marena is not on Pogradec’s lakeshore: it stands near the mountain village of Llëngë, west of the city, within the remote landscape of Mokra. The journey inland is part of the visit, replacing the city’s wide lake views with forested slopes, village roads, and deep highland quiet. The monastery is an important spiritual and cultural landmark for the surrounding communities. Visitors should dress respectfully, keep voices low, follow any instructions on photography or access, and remember that this is an active place of faith rather than only a tourist attraction. Allow a substantial part of the day from Pogradec and check current road conditions before setting out. The monastery can be combined with the natural scenery around Llëngë, including the canyon area, but remote routes are best approached in daylight and with local guidance.
